Detectives conducted a search warrant on Aug. 30 in the arfternoon, in which investigators determined that Shaw visited pornographic websites a few times per week. Detectives told Shaw of their findings, including that there were images of small children in the report, including an animated file of a child being sexually assaulted. When detectives asked Shaw if he remembered that file, he responded, "possibly, yeah," according to the criminal complaint filed in Milwaukee County.

According to the criminal complaint, Shaw told police that viewing child pornography was a "deep dark secret" of his and that he only recently started looking at child pornography.

Mentioned in the criminal complaint were ten pornographic images, all involving children. The nature of these images is too graphic to report publicly, other than to state that images were located both on Shaw's personal computer in addition to his cell phone.
