Milwaukee Squad Struck by Gunfire; Officers Inside

Milwaukee police officers were seated in their squad car when it was struck by gunfire just a block from their headquarters.

MILWAUKEE, WI — Milwaukee Police are investigating an incident during which a gunshot was fired in the area of an occupied squad car and the bullet struck the squad.

According to police, the police squad was struck just one block away from their headquarters at Milwaukee Police District Seven.

Around 1:45 p.m., two Milwaukee Police Officers were in a marked MPD squad car in the 3100 block of N. 37th Street when a bullet struck the windshield of the vehicle.

“...that’s very difficult situation for anyone to go through. I mean, nobody is expecting a bullet to come crashing through the windshield of their car. So, like anybody experiencing something like that, the officers were very shaken and alarmed by this incident," said Assistant Chief James Harpole in a FOX 6 NOW report."Nobody's expecting a bullet to come crashing through the windshield of their car."

Neither officer was struck by gunfire, but one officer suffered minor injuries due to broken glass.

MPD is investigating whether or not the officers were the intended target. Police had the street blocked off, and investigators went door-to-door to try to find a suspect in the shooting, to no avail.
