More Speeding Tickets in Work Zones, New Milwaukee Sheriff Says

In less than a two hour period Wednesday, Milwaukee County deputies issued 26 speeding tickets in work zones under a new enforcement wave.

MILWAUKEE COUNTY, WI – The acting Milwaukee County Sheriff has made his first enforcement action in Milwaukee County following the departure of David Clarke.

Acting Sheriff Richard Schmidt ordered saturation patrols for speed enforcement as the freeway road construction project continues. Motorists have been ignoring the slower speed limits in the orange-marked construction zones.

In less than a two hour period in the early morning hours yesterday, deputies cited 26 speed violators, all at more than 15 mph over the posted speed limit.

Acting Sheriff Schmidt said, “Speeding on the freeway is dangerous, especially in the narrow, irregular lanes in the construction zones. I will continue these saturation patrols to discourage speed violators.”
