Oak Leaf Trail Pedestrian Bridge Will Be Closed

The Oak Leaf Trail bridge is being widened and will be closed for 10 days in June. Authorities are cautioning against one specific detour:

WAUWATOSA, WI — Officials want the public to be safe, and to avoid one specific detour as the Oak Leaf Trail Pedestrian Bridge near the Village is slated to be fully demolished and replaced this month.

The proposed replacement bridge will be widened to 10 feet, which is two feet wider than the current bridge originally constructed in 1981. Officials say there are signs of corrosion on the bridge which makes replacement an appropriate move at this time.

There will also be slight shift of the bridge to the North to improve line of sight for pedestrians on the trail as well as some improvements to fencing and access ways to the bridge.

Between June 20-30, the bridge will be completely closed to pedestrians, and notices will be posted for an Oak Leaf Trail detour to the south via Honey Creek Parkway and up Kavanaugh Place due to State Street construction.

When following detours, be safe and cross only at designated crossings. Officials are strongly advising against using the railroad tracks or trestle to cross the river: it is not only extremely dangerous, but trespassing on private property.
