Teen Carjackers in Wauwatosa Foiled By ... A Stick Shift

Report says that no one is in custody for this crime yet, but Wauwatosa police said they're following a strong lead.

WAUWATOSA - Police say that a group of apparent teenagers staged a brazen carjacking attempt in broad daylight Tuesday, only to be stopped in their tracks because none of them could drive a stick shift.

According to a report from TMJ 4, at about 8 a.m. Tuesday, the carjackers held a man at gunpoint at the Wells Fargo ATM across from Mayfair Mall.

Wauwatosa police said four young suspects were in the SUV, according to WTMJ. One of them tried to get away in the victim's car, but couldn't.

"He couldn't steal the BMW because it was a stick shift and he didn't know how to get it going," Gwilliam said to WTMJ. "He was a teenager."

Police don't have anyone in custody yet, but are following a strong lead, officials said. They reportedly fled after they realized they couldn't get the BMW moving.
