Tosa Moms' School Project a National Funding Finalist

Waukesha and Milwaukee projects also still in the running for a share of $50 million "Super Schools" philanthropic initiative.

Two Wauwatosa mothers are in the running to have their new school project receive a share of $50 million from a national philanthropic initiative.

According to an article published in the Journal Sentinel Sunday, Wauwatosa residents Julia Burns and Amber Regan learned their proposal for Pathways High - a hands-on project-based school to prepare students for forward-looking careers, is still in the running for the XQ: The Super School Project.

XQ: THe Super School Project is a philanthropic initiative that will award a pool of $50 million to the top 5 new schools proposals with the announcement coming this August.

According to the article, the initiative received nearly 700 applications in round one. Burns and Regan's proposal for Pathways High is one of 348 projects still in the running.

The Journal Sentinel went on to report that two area projects are also in the running:

  • The Waukesha School District is partnering with the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Education and others to remake the curriculum at its Waukesha North High School.
  • Milwaukee Public Schools is working with the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee to develop a pilot program for Marshall High School on the city's north side.
