Wauwatosa Construction Update: What You Need To Know
Here are five major road construction projects that will be impacting Wauwatosa residents and the surrounding communities:

WAUWATOSA, WI — It's often said that there are two seasons in Wisconsin: winter and construction season. Here are five major road construction projects that will be impacting Wauwatosa residents and the surrounding communities:
- Wauwatosa Avenue at Harmonee is now closed through Labor Day to allow for reconstruction. Did you know that the water main in this area was installed in 1897? It was time for replacement of the utilities and roadway. The Blanchard Street public parking lots will remain open during construction.
- Beginning Monday, July 10 Center Street will close just east of 112th Street to just west of Mayfair Road. The closure is expected to last until mid-to-late August, but will reopen before school starts this Fall. The detour route will be Mayfair Road, Burleigh Street, and 124th Street. Residences immediately south of the project will have access to Center Street via 112th Street.
- 69th Street and North Avenue Pedestrian Plaza- work is slated to begin shortly on the creation of a pedestrian plaza and surface parking lot at 69th Street and North Avenue. The current public parking lot will be turned into a pedestrian plaza with site furnishings – lounge chairs, benches, tables, bike racks, and landscaping. New parking will be constructed on both the east and west sides of 69th Street. Are you interested in learning more?
- Capitol Drive and I-41 Beginning this week, the following closures related to construction work at Capitol Drive and I-41 are in place through late August 2017: I-41 South to eastbound Capitol Drive, Westbound Capitol Drive to I-41 South, Eastbound Capitol Drive to I-41 North, and the I-41 North exit to Capitol Drive. Motorists are encouraged to use WIS 100, Hampton Avenue, 124th Street, and Burleigh Street as detours during the project. A second phase of work may require additional closures; this information will be shared as it is available.
- Watertown Plank Road Bridges over Underwood Creek - Rehabilitation work began this week on two bridges along Watertown Plank Road over Underwood Creek. Single lane traffic will remain open in both directions throughout the project which is expected to last until Fall 2018.
