Wauwatosa Pedestrian Plaza Opens To Public

The plaza features lounge chairs, picnic tables, a lit canopy structure, benches, a public drinking fountain and much more.

WAUWATOSA, WI — Wauwatosa's pedestrian plaza near the intersection of 69th Street and North Ave. is officially open to the public after nearly a year of construction.

Officials say that the 69th Street Plaza project is a product of the “East Tosa North Avenue Plan” that provided a coordinated approach to the continued, positive development of North Avenue.

City officials said that a major goal of the plaza project was to create a destination that provided value and enjoyment to the East Tosa businesses, neighbors, and customers.

The plaza also accommodates the need for parking in the area, improves storm water drainage with its permeable pavement, and supports urban forestry efforts with the newly planted trees and landscaping, officials said.

“We all want to build something that lasts beyond us, it means everything to me now that my 8 years of public service is over to visit the 69th Street plaza and see neighbors chatting and working and children running around and enjoying this phenomenal public space,” said former Alderman Bobby Pantuso.
