One of the first tasks the contractor has is to connect the water main at Milwaukee and Wauwatosa Avenue. This means that for the first few days of the project, they will be impacting the northeast section of the intersection of Milwaukee and Wauwatosa Avenue.

The contractor will begin work after 8:30 am to minimize the impact to traffic and pedestrians for school drop off. The contractor will be in this intersection through March 6, weather dependent. They will restore the intersection at the conclusion of their work each day.

Pedestrians will be able to cross Milwaukee and Wauwatosa Avenue in the morning before 8:30 am. The regularly scheduled crossing guard will be at this location. There will also be flaggers assisting with traffic when the contractor starts their work each day during this week.

In the afternoon (and early release on Wednesday), we will still have a crossing guard, but the crosswalk between Wauwatosa East High School and the Women’s Club will be shifted slightly east. We will keep it as close to the crosswalk as possible while maintaining a safe distance from the work zone.

Access to all the crosswalks in this intersection will be available after this first task is complete (tentatively after March 6).

We know this first week will be an adjustment, particularly with the work starting right at the intersection of Milwaukee and Wauwatosa Avenue. We appreciate your patience.
