Wauwatosa School Board Says 'No' to Polling Places in Schools
Change will take place after 2016 election. But this year, schools will be student-free on election day over safety concerns.

WAUWATOSA — Citing safety concerns, the Wauwatosa School Board voted to remove polling places at its schools after the 2016 November election.
Currently 8 out of 14 Wauwatosa's voting locations are located in schools. That means voters in 15 of Wauwatosa's 24 voting wards go to a school to vote.
According to a WTMJ report, the board also voted to hold a teacher's in-service day on November 8th, this year's Election Day, in order to keep kids out of school.

According to a FOX 6 report, it isn't yet clear where the polling places would be moved to.
"We need to be proactive and not be dealing with a situation after the fact if something bad occurs," Phil Ertl, superintendent of the Wauwatosa School District said.

"Voting locations need to be fairly well placed within a municipality so they're convenient for the people to use. There's not always a lot of large facilities available," Carla Ledesma, Wauwatosa city clerk said to FOX 6.
