Wisconsin State Fair Packing Tips For Parents Bringing Kids
The Wisconsin State Fair is fun for the whole family. Here's a list of things you can bring into the fair that will make life easier!

MILWAUKEE COUNTY, WI – For Wisconsinites, the Wisconsin State Fair is a pavement-pounding fun-filled event for the entire family. Families across the state travel to Milwaukee to be up close with their favorite farm animals, eat eccentric fried foods, and play carnival games.
The Wisconsin State Fair starts August 2. Patch consulted with the experts at Meijer to come up with a list of items you can bring into the fair grounds to keep your family happy, healthy, and in great spirits, so you can focus on finding the shortest Cream Puff line.
- Portable Fan – Bring a small portable fan to keep babies and toddlers cool during the summer heat.
- Selfie stick – An easy way to take a family photo featuring your favorite fair cow. Please note that selfie sticks are not permitted in the State Fair Main Stage.
- Wet wipes – Clean up between cream puffs by keeping wet wipes on hand.
- Glowsticks – A fun, colorful item to wear and a way for parents to easily locate kids in the crowded fair in the evening.
- Earplugs – Between the music stages and squeals from the giant slide, the state fair often includes loud noises. Use earplugs to protect the ears of your little ones.
- Walkie Talkie – Allow your older kids to have some freedom to roam while still staying in communication.
- Sunscreen – Enjoy the summer sunshine safely! Meijer pharmacists recommend that you protect your family’s skin with sunscreen that has at least SPF 25.
- Food and Beverages – The State Fair generously allows families to bring any food and non-alcoholic beverages to the fair. Remember to bring plastic beverages as cans and glass bottles are not permitted, and pack non-perishable items such as pretzels or nuts that will hold up in August heat.
- Cooler - Bring a cooler on wheels and stock up on the Milk House’s many flavor varieties.
The folks at Meijer also asked us to remind you that Wednesday, August 8 is Meijer Day at the State Fair. Join Meijer in Central Park for free product samples, children’s activities, fun contests and giveaways.
