Woman Charged with Stealing, Filling Narcotic Prescription

A 39-year-old Milwaukee woman is facing charges that she stole another woman’s prescription and filled it at a Wauwatosa pharmacy.

Janara Daneili Jenkins was charged in Milwaukee County Circuit Court with one count of obtaining a controlled substance by misrepresentation. If convicted, she faces up to six years in prison and $10,000 in fines.

According to the criminal complaint:

On March 28, the victim was at the doctor and was given a prescription for Oxycodone. But before she could leave, she needed to call her physical therapist.

The woman left her purse in the examining room and went to use the phone, but came back to get the number for the therapist out of her purse. Jenkins was in the room at the time, she told police.

The woman took her wallet out of the purse and left it on the counter before leaving the office.

When she realized later that she'd left her wallet behind, she called the doctor’s office, but they were unable to find it. She began to cancel her credit cards, then remembered the prescription was in her wallet. She called Walgreen's and learned her prescription had been already been filled at the pharmacy at 2656 Wauwatosa Ave.

Police went to the pharmacy and discovered that it was Jenkins who had come in and filled the victim’s prescription, along with two of her own.

Jenkins will make her initial appearance in court Oct. 30
