Today we’re driving some of the safest cars ever made, (Buckle Seat belts, Air Bags, Anti-lock brakes, Traction control, Back-up cameras, etc.), yet crash fatalities remain the leading cause of death in the United States for persons 3-34 years of age. In an effort to save lives, many organizations work together to educate the public, train drivers, and do what they can to make our roads safer.

  • Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Provides Federal, State, and local partners with the tools, resources, and information necessary to make sound safety investment decisions and works with the state of Wisconsin to develop Strategic Highway Safety Plans (SHSP).
  • Department of Transportation (DOT) Works directly with law enforcement, local elected officials, transportation agencies, safety advocates, and the general public.
  • Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Works to reduce crashes, injuries and fatalities through education, innovation, regulation, enforcement, and financial assistance.
  • National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) develops, publishes, and enforces industry standards that improve the safety of passenger vehicles, and conducts research on developing behavior safety programs, and implements national campaigns to increase and improve the safe driving habits of the Nation’s drivers
  • National Safety Council (NSC) Nonprofit organization with the mission to save lives by preventing injuries and deaths at work, in homes and communities, and on the road through leadership, research, education and advocacy.
