Coyotes Kill Dog in Whitefish Bay on Sunday
Whitefish Bay residents are urged to look after their pets more closely after a dog was killed by two coyotes on Sunday.

WHITEFISH BAY -- Whitefish Bay residents are urged to look after their pets more closely after a dog was killed by two coyotes on Sunday.
On Sunday, December 11, at 5:30 am, in the eastern part of the Village, a small dog was apparently killed by two coyotes. According to police, the dog’s owner was out shoveling while the dog was loose outside. When the resident couldn’t find his pet, he walked over to the other side of the car that was parked in the driveway and found the dog. Two coyotes ran away from the near vicinity of the dog, heading west. The dog died from its injuries.
The DNR has been contacted to assess the severity of this and the other incident this year, and the likelihood of the same two coyotes being involved with the other incident this year in October. That incident occurred 3 blocks from Estabrook Park and the Milwaukee River, while Sunday’s incident was two blocks from the Lake Michigan bluffs, and seven blocks north of the previous incident.

Both dogs were very small dogs, approximately 4-5 pounds each. If you have a small dog, do not leave it unattended and stay close to it in order to intimidate a possible coyote attack. Do not use a leash with a retractable long cable.
If you see a coyote in your neighborhood please call the Whitefish Bay Non-Emergency Police Department at 414-351-9900.
