Duke Pride Roundup: Girls Basketball Team Opens Home Season

Hockey, wrestling and boys swimming also begin winter seasons this week.

Here is this week’s roundup of athletics and activities at Whitefish Bay High School, courtesy of Athletic Director John Gustavson:

GIRLS BASKETBALL: The team will open up the season with two home games this week. On Wednesday the opponent will be Messmer and on Friday the opponent will be Hartford. Both games begin at 7:30. Please note that the Duke Pride pass cannot be used for basketball games.

WRESTLING: The Bay grapplers open the season with a home meet on Thursday versus Germantown. The varsity matches will start no earlier than 7 p.m. Please note that the Duke Pride pass can be used for wrestling matches.

HOCKEY: The hockey team will open their home season on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. versus Arrowhead at the MSOE Kern Center. This is Spirit Night with festivities throughout the night. This is a great night to become a WNS Storm supporter! Please note that the Duke Pride pass can be used for hockey games.

COACHING OPPORTUNITIES: The following coaching opportunities are available: boys varsity track coach (season starts March 5), boys junior varsity tennis coach (season starts March 26) and girls junior varsity tennis coach (season starts Aug. 7) Interested candidates should contact Athletic Director John Gustavson.

BOYS BASKETBALL: Congratulations to the team on winning their first two games of the season this past weekend on their way to capturing the University School Tourney title. The team next plays Milwaukee South at 3 p.m. on Friday at Milwaukee South as part of the Terry Porter Classic.

BOYS SWIMMING: The team opens up their season with a meet at Shorewood on Wednesday starting at 6:30 p.m. and then competes at the Nicolet Invitational on Saturday.

ORNAMENT SALE FROM DUKE PRIDE: Purchase limited edition Duke Pride Christmas ornaments for $10 at the girls basketball game this Wednesday and Friday, or Friday during the lunch hour and after school.

CONCUSSION INFORMATION (PART 1) WFBHS is offering ImPact Concussion testing for any student-athlete that is interested in being tested. The cost for administration of the test is $10, checks made payable to Aurora Health Care. This test provides a baseline to use in case an athlete is injured. If an athlete appears to have sustained a head injury, they are advised to see Athletic Trainer Elaine Gonya ASAP so that a proper evaluation of the injury can be made and the development of a plan to return the athlete as quickly & safely as possible can be done.
