Cancer Support Community Greater Milwaukee presents
“Ask the Expert: Genetic Risk for Ovarian and Breast Cancer” with Angela Thompson, MS, Certified Genetics Counselor Froedtert & Medical College of Wisconsin
Many women have certain genetic mutations, which put them at higher risk for developing certain types of breast and ovarian cancers. And these types of cancer can often form at a much earlier age than non-genetic cancers, often before normal recommended screening would detect cancer. At this free lecture women will learn the basics of genetic mutations, how they contribute to cancer, what genetic testing can determine, and when genetic testing might be appropriate for these young individuals and their families. This information is especially critical for Jewish women of Eastern and Central European descent as they are more likely than the general population to carry a genetic mutation related to increased risk for breast or ovarian cancer. This lecture will take place on Wednesday, November 7th from 6:30-8:00 pm at the Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center. To register, call 414.962.8201, ext. 102.
