Harpo's Salon Braids Top Trends with Casual Cool

The Diversey Boulevard salon proves comfortable and charming is a style that's here to stay.

Coco Chanel once said, “a girl should be two things: classy and fabulous." Both can be expertly achieved just off of Silver Spring Drive at , 5585 North Diversey Boulevard.

The quaint and inviting salon is filled with sunlight and the buzz of beauty in the making. A neat row of stylist's chairs line one wall, while manicure and pedicure stations await along the other.  And although the trendiest in both hair and nail design are second nature at Harpo's, the atmosphere is relaxed and homey.

"We have a good place here. It's fun and a nice place to be," says Peggy Dixon, the owner and a master stylist.

The friendly salon has been a mainstay in Whitefish Bay for nearly a decade. Peggy chose Whitefish Bay to plant her small business roots because the town is where she got her start in the cosmetology business.

"I was in the business for years and I wanted to try doing it myself," says Peggy.

Hair extensions, relaxers, and amazing cuts are daily doings at the salon but Harpo's is especially known for their amazing hair coloring. So much so that the salon caught the eye of AOL's Stylist.com website for their take on Jennifer Aniston's famous "bronde" color, a mix of brunette and golden tones. AOL sent a camera crew to document Peggy's handiwork in action in this segment

"It was fun to be able to show your work," says Peggy.

Aniston's hair is still a popular request, along with new trends such as soft ringlets and shorter styles on the younger crowd. Peggy is also excited about a new ten minute color process, which will be available soon.

"If you're in a hurry and you need to get in and out, such as a lunch time gig, it's ten minutes. On, off and done," explains Peggy.

Elizabeth Boyd, a Brown Deer resident, has traveled to Whitefish Bay for years to indulge her mane at Harpo's.

"From the minute you walk in you feel like family and not just a client. I love going in and letting Erika have full range. She has a natural eye for what looks great on me. Today I told her highlights and she blew me away with the color. Last time she put a few extensions in and I got so many compliments from them. I have never walked out of there feeling less than a million bucks," comments Elizabeth.

Your tresses aren't the only stars at Harpo's. The hottest trends in nail design are also in the spotlight. Shellac, glitter and jewels are all apart of the repertoire. Waxing services are also available.

Many fun events are on deck at Harpo's including classes on new removable extensions. To keep tabs on those and the latest happenings, check out the salon's Facebook page.
