Officers Tase Man During Traffic Stop: Report

WHITEFISH BAY, WI — Police in Whitefish Bay say a man suffering a manic episode had to be tased and restrained following a routine traffic stop in Whitefish Bay.

According to Whitefish Bay police call logs, a 47-year-old Mukwonago man has been arrested and faces potential charges after police say he fought officers following a routine traffic stop.

Police say an officer on patrol in the area of E. Fairmount Ave. and N. Bartlett Ave. just before 4 a.m. on Aug. 11 came upon a vehicle that was speeding.

Police said the driver initially stopped, however fled officers only to get pulled over again a half-block away.

Police say the man became combative with the officer, who had to deploy a taser to subdue him. Police say the man had been in a manic state for several weeks, and was transported to Columbia St. Mary's in Milwaukee for treatment.

Officer said the man remained aggressive and had threatening behavior at the time he was transported to the hospital. He was ultimately placed under a Chapter 51 hold and a crisis team was called to evaluate him and provide a treatment path.
