Free Youth Baseball Clinic in Whitefish Bay Saturday 6-20 Features Bando, Cooper and Other Former Major Leaguers
The Hanover Insurance Group is partnering with American Advantage Insurance Group, Ansay & Associates and the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association (MLBPAA) to host a Legends for Youth baseball clinic on Saturday, June 20, 9 a.m. to noon, at Craig Counsell Park.
The free clinic will host approximately 250 local children, ages 6 to16, and feature former Major League Baseball players as instructors, including Sal Bando and Cecil Cooper. The clinic is being held in honor of Greg Loyda, who passed away in March 2010. As a husband, father of three and an executive of The Hanover, Loyda was highly respected throughout the community and spent years coaching Whitefish Bay Little League.
“We are very excited to be able to bring back the Legends for Youth clinic this year to young baseball fans and the community, through our strong partnerships with American Advantage, Ansay & Associates and the MLBPAA,” said John Vose, assistant regional vice president with The Hanover. “We hope through their experience at the clinic, interacting with these legends of the game, the kids will be inspired to give their very best effort and achieve their full potential, whether it is on the baseball field or in the classroom.”
The clinic’s focus is on helping youth develop fundamental baseball skills, while building self-respect and confidence. The former MLB players will work with the participants at various training stations, including pitching, batting and fielding. The goal of the program is to teach important skills that will help the participants excel on the field, at home and at school.
“We are proud to team up with The Hanover to bring back another year of the Legends for Youth baseball clinic,” said Mike Ansay, CEO of Ansay & Associates. “Ansay & Associates places high importance on our involvement in the local communities, and views Legends for Youth as a wonderful opportunity to make an impactful difference on youth in our area.”
“To have these great players work one-on-one with local children is truly unique and we’re excited to help sponsor such a great program for our community,” said Jon Oaks, president of American Advantage. “The Hanover Insurance Group and the MLBPAA are great partners in this effort. It couldn’t be done without them.”
Online registration is encouraged through MLB Alumni at www.baseballalumni.com. In-person registration begins at 8:30 a.m. if space is still available. Children will receive a free T-shirt, a baseball and a healthy lunch. They also will enjoy an autograph and photo session with the players.
The clinic will be held at Craig Counsell Park, 6300 N. Lydell Ave., Whitefish Bay, Wis. For more information about the Whitefish Bay Legends for Youth baseball clinic and other baseball clinics with the MLBPAA, please click here or visit http://tinyurl.com/nj4fgwh.
