Schultz Fails to Make Cut at U.S. Amateur

Whitefish Bay native cards a pair of 73s at Blue Mound and Erin Hills.

With a Monday round of 73 at Erin Hills, Jack Schultz found himself in contention to advance to match play at the U.S. Amateur with a good round at Blue Mound Country Club.

Unfortunately Schultz, a Whitefish Bay native, couldn’t recover from an early double-bogey on Tuesday afternoon, shooting 73 and failing to make the cut. His two-day total of 146 was good for 4-over par and put him in the middle of the 312-player field.

Due to early-morning thunderstorms on Tuesday, some golfers with afternoon tee times at Erin Hills and Blue Mound were forced to finish their rounds on Wednesday morning.

Schultz went off on Tuesday morning at 7:40 AM and had only played a couple of holes before play was suspended shortly after 8 a.m. More than three hours later, players went back on the course to resume play.

The rain made the course play longer than usual and wind gusts gave players fits throughout the day.

Schultz made the turn on Tuesday at two-over and couldn’t get anything going on the back nine. He bogeyed the 378-yard, par-4 11th hole and made seven consecutive pars to end his round.

When summer ends, Schultz will rejoin the golf team at the University of Michigan for his junior season.
