WIAA Track: Smith-Jenkins set for Saturday
Dominican junior primed for big day in three sprint finals.

Dominican High School only has one representative at the WIAA State Track Meet this year, but that’s not stopping the Knights from making some noise.
Junior Deysha Smith-Jenkins competed in the 100, 200 and 400 Friday and qualified for Saturday’s finals in each event in Division 2.
“I think I did all right,” Smith-Jenkins said. “I was disappointed in the (400), but it’s so hot and it’s a prelim so I’m excited for tomorrow to see what I can do.”

The junior, who admitted to taking it a little easier considering the heat and the fact it was just a qualifier, finished in the top two in all three events.
She took first in the 100 (12.57 seconds), and second in the 200 (25.77) and the 400 (57.55). She is the defending state champion in the 200 with a time of 25.10 seconds.

“I feel pretty good. I’m excited. I heard it’s going to rain and I love running in the rain so it’d be good,” she said.
