📰 News we're reading

1. Proposed Cheyenne roundabout study advances to Council without full committee support (capcity.news) — Cheyenne's Finance Committee has sent a $186,500 study of the Pershing–Converse–19th roundabout to the full City Council without a recommendation, leaving councilors to decide next week whether to fund a major safety review and potential redesign. The study would reassess crash data, propose improvements, and prepare construction drawings, while some councilors argue better signage and education might be cheaper and just as effective.

2. LCSD1 approves package of infrastructure, construction contracts (capcity.news) — Major construction moves are underway for Cheyenne's Laramie County School District 1, including a nearly $2 million design contract to rebuild Hobbs Elementary and asbestos abatement at old Arp Elementary. Trustees also approved extra funds for parking lot repairs and heard updates on other campus renovations, with much of the work ramping up as students return next week.

3. Laramie County Recent Arrests (8/17/26–8/18/26) (capcity.news) — Law enforcement agencies in Laramie County, based out of Cheyenne, have released a recent arrests log covering August 17–18, listing suspects, recommended charges, and important limitations on what's included. Everyone named is presumed innocent until proven guilty, and some categories of cases and juveniles are intentionally omitted from public release.

4. Nevada Air National Guard C-130 heads to Oregon for wildfire fight (2news.com) — A Nevada Air National Guard C-130 is being activated to help fight wildfires from Klamath Falls, Oregon, working alongside the Wyoming Air National Guard's 153rd Airlift Wing based in Cheyenne. Using a 3,000-gallon MAFFS retardant system, the joint crews will provide surge support when civilian air tankers are stretched thin, with deployment length depending on wildfire activity.
