Today's riddle: What do you call somebody who crosses the ocean twice and doesn't take a bath? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. PREP VOLLEYBALL: South falls at Thunder Basin in four (wyomingnews.com) — Cheyenne volleyball fans saw tough road losses Saturday, as Cheyenne South pushed No. 3 Thunder Basin to four sets in Gillette and Cheyenne East fell in three to top-ranked Kelly Walsh in Casper. Strong individual performances from South's Katelynn Brennan and East's Jade Lucero and teammates highlighted how competitive Cheyenne's programs remain against Wyoming's best.
2. Medicaid nursing home residents could keep more savings under new proposals (shortgo.co) — Wyoming lawmakers are considering raising Medicaid nursing home asset limits and personal allowances, a change that would directly affect Cheyenne residents relying on long-term care. The proposal would boost the asset cap to $5,000 and monthly allowance to $100, with an estimated $1.3 million annual state cost, and has support from advocates, providers, and Cheyenne Sen. Lynne Hutchings. Lawmakers will revisit the draft bill in November.
3. Catholicism comes to the Pacific Northwest and Northern Rockies (osvnews.com) — Catholic history in Wyoming gets special attention here, tracing how the growing 19th-century faith community led to creation of the Diocese of Cheyenne, which still covers the entire state. The piece explains early missionary work, frontier challenges, and today's network of parishes and schools, then widens out to similar Catholic roots across Montana, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington.
4. Wyoming lawmakers take steps to further restrict online gaming (capcity.news) — Wyoming lawmakers are advancing a bill to make most online sweepstakes gambling a felony, a move that could reshape how residents, including those in Cheyenne, play and spend online. The debate comes as a Cheyenne horsetrack now majority-owned by Bally's plans new gaming facilities, and statewide wagering is expected to top $3 billion this year.
