Tuscaloosa Police: Medical Issue Led To Fatal UA Campus Crash, Victim Identified
TPD says a medical issue likely led to a fatal crash on the University of Alabama campus Monday afternoon.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — The Tuscaloosa Police Department says a medical issue likely led to a fatal crash on the University of Alabama campus Monday afternoon.

As Patch previously reported, the TPD and the University of Alabama Police Department responded at approximately 1:56 p.m. to the intersection of McCorvey Drive and Campus Drive West after receiving reports that a vehicle had struck a tree near Marr’s Spring.

TPD First responders attempted life-saving measures at the scene, but the driver, 65-year-old Danny Clay Hartley,was pronounced dead.
"At this time, TPD Traffic Homicide Unit investigators believe Mr. Hartley’ death was caused by a sudden medical event that occurred moments before to the crash," TPD said in an update Tuesday morning.
