Vacant Commercial Structure Burns In Desert Hot Springs

Palm Drive was closed to drivers while crews battled the Monday blaze.

DESERT HOT SPRINGS, CA - A second-alarm fire gutted a commercial building in Desert Hot Springs today, causing an estimated $400,000 in damage, but no one was hurt.

More than 40 firefighters were dispatched at 9:03 a.m. to the 13000 block of Palm Drive, said Jennifer Fuhrman of the Riverside County Fire Department. They found a 5,000-square-foot vacant, commercial building on fire, with
the flames being fanned by 25-30 mph winds, Fuhrman said.

The cause of the blaze, which was contained at 9:57 a.m., was under investigation.
