Smoke Blankets Davis From Fire In Zamora

BREAKING: A fire burning at a recycling center is impacting air quality. Crews also battled blazes Monday near Vacaville and Fairfield.

DAVIS, CA — Smoke from a fire at a recycling plant in Zamora was impacting air quality in Davis, Woodland and surrounding communities, Yolo-Solano Air Quality Management District officials said. The fire at Northern Recycling broke out in the early-morning hours Monday and was sparked by wind, according to a news report on Twitter.

Authorities are expecting the blaze to burn for days, a KCRA reporter wrote in a Twitter post containing images of the fire.

The Yolo-Solano AQMD issued a smoke alert for the surrounding areas, including Woodland, Davis and Winters.

"Heavy winds today from the north/northwest are transporting smoke. Expect smoke to linger throughout the day and likely into the evening," air quality officials stated.

Another fire broke out Monday morning in the Vacaville area. The Timm Fire was reported at 9:23 a.m. in the area of Timm and Peaceful Glen roads, authorities said.

In a separate incident, Suisun Fire Protection District firefighters responded at about 4 a.m. Monday to a five-acre vegetation fire in unincorporated Solano County, near Fairfield in the area of Gordon Valley and Clayton roads. According to Capt. Scott Maddi, the fire was threatening structures when crews arrived on scene. As of 6:30 a.m., the blaze was 50-percent contained and was no longer threatening structures.

On Sunday, National Weather Service officials extended a Red Flag Warning through Tuesday evening for the North Bay mountains because the risk of wildfires will be extremely high.
