Inmate Dies In Cell At Detention Center In Murrieta

The Riverside County coroner will determine the cause of death, officials said.

MURRIETA, CA — A 43-year-old inmate suffered a medical emergency while in his cell at the Cois Byrd Detention Center in Murrieta and died at the facility, authorities said Wednesday.

Correctional staff conducted a security check about 5 a.m. Monday and located the inmate inside a cell by himself in need of medical attention, according to Deputy Robyn Flores of the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

Despite life-saving measures attempted by medical staff and paramedics, the inmate, identified as Jamarr Stamps, was pronounced dead at the scene, Flores said.

There were no signs of foul play surrounding Stamps' death, Flores said.

The cause of death would be determined by the Riverside County Coroner's Bureau.
