Motorist Found Dead In Car That Hit Tree In Petaluma

BREAKING: The 69-year-old was declared dead at the scene off Highway 116 Thursday night, police said.

SONOMA COUNTY, CA – A 69-year-old Vallejo man was found dead in a vehicle that had crashed into a tree in Petaluma late Thursday night, police said.

The man, whose name has not been released, may have had a medical emergency that caused him to drive his Toyota Camry off of state Highway 116, Petaluma police Sgt. Ron Klein said.

Petaluma police and firefighters responded at 10:47 p.m. to the solo vehicle crash off the south side of the road a half-mile east of Pine View Way.

The man was extricated from the Toyota and paramedics performed CPR but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators haven't determined if impairment was a factor in the crash, Klein said. "The initial investigation suggests the driver may have had a medical emergency which caused him to drive off the roadway and collide with a tree off the shoulder of the roadway," he said.
