Temecula Police Shoot, Kill Knife-Wielding Man: Sheriff's Department

Sheriff's officials say a man came at officers with the knife prior to being shot.

TEMECULA, CA- Temecula police shot and killed a man who was advancing on them with a knife, the sheriff's department said Thursday.

It all started when police got a 911 call around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday directing them to a home on the 32600 block of Hislop Way, according to Sheriff's Deputy Mike Vasquez.

"As officers arrived on scene, they contacted the reporting party who directed them to the garage at the residence," Vasquez said. "Officers made contact with a male in the garage who was armed with a knife. During the contact, the male advanced towards the officers with the knife and an officer involved shooting occurred."

The man, whose identity has not yet been released, was taken to an area hospital. He died there from his injuries, Vasquez said.

The officers have been placed on administrative leave while the shooting is fully investigated, according to the deputy. Their names aren't yet being released, either.

"This is an active and on-going investigation," Vasquez said.
