Freezing Rain May Make Travel Hazardous in New Haven and Fairfield counties Sunday Morning

The National Weather Service issued a freezing rain advisory and hazardous weather outlook for early Sunday for the affected areas.

The National Weather Service has issued both a freezing rain advisory and hazardous weather outlook for early Sunday morning because of anticipated freezing rain and icy travel conditions.

The advisory and hazardous weather outlook is in effect for all of Fairfield and New Haven counties beginning at 3 a.m. Sunday.

Communities along the immediate coastline such as Greenwich, New Canaan, Darien, Stamford, Westport, Norwalk Stratford, Fairfield, Milford, Orange, East Haven, Branford, Guilford, and Madison have the freezing rain advisory in effect until 8 a.m. Sunday.

But communities more inland in Fairfield and New Haven counties such as Bethel, Danbury, Brookfield, Ridgefield, Weston, Redding, Easton, Monroe, Trumbull, Shelton, Naugatuck, Southbury, Oxford, Middlebury, Hamden, North Haven, Wallingford, Cheshire, and Meriden have the freezing rain advisory in effect until 11 a.m. Sunday.

A hazardous weather outlook was also issued for all of the communities mentioned above.

The freezing rain advisory and hazardous weather outlook was issued because temperatures will be below freezing early Sunday resulting in icy precipitation.

The National Weather Service predicts that the freezing rain may make roads and walkways potentially hazardous. Additionally, travel may be difficulty early on Sunday., the National Weather Service predicts.

After 12 p.m. Sunday, temperatures will rise into the 40s statewide and any freezing rain will turn to plain rain. The rain should cease statewide around 2 a.m. Monday.

On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the weather looks great, sunny, with temperatures around 40 degrees.
