UPDATE: Weather Prompts Postponement of Greenwich Budget Presentations, Public Hearing

Greenwich officials delay budget presentations originally scheduled for Monday night.

Update: 1:40 p.m.

The presentation of the proposed 2015-16 town and school budgets to the Board of Estimate and Taxation and the public hearing on the proposed fiscal plans have been postponed until Tuesday evening.

First Selectman Peter Tesei will make the formal presentation of the annual operating budget and the Capital Improvement Program budget. School Superintendent William McKersie will present the Board of Education budget.

The presentations and hearing will be held in the Town Hall Meeting Room.

  • 6 p.m.: First Selectman’s Budget Presentation
  • 6:30 p.m.: Superintendent and Board of Education’s Presentation
  • 7 p.m.: Public Hearing

The BET originally was scheduled to meet Monday night.

As heavy snow and sleet continue to fall in the region, all Greenwich Public and private schools announced Monday morning that they are closed for the day.

In addition, Malloy has ordered a delayed opening for state offices on Monday, Feb. 2,, and is directing nonessential state employees to report to work at 10 a.m.

The National Weather SErvice says the snow and gusty winds will continue through the day.

  • Today: Snow and freezing rain before 2pm, then snow, freezing rain, and sleet between 2pm and 4pm, then a chance of snow after 4pm. The freezing rain and snow could be heavy at times. Temperature falling to around 26 by 5pm. Wind chill values between 15 and 25. East wind 9 to 14 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Total daytime ice accumulation of 0.3 to 0.5 of an inch possible. Total daytime snow and sleet accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.
  • Tonight: A chance of snow, mainly before 8pm. Cloudy during the early evening, then gradual clearing, with a low around 6. Wind chill values between -5 and -15. Blustery, with a northwest wind 18 to 23 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
