Greenwich Students Win Top Awards for Sustainable Projects At Connecticut Science Fair

The students from Greenwich High and Brunswick schools are headed to national competitions.

Greenwich High School students Ethan Novek and Bryce Anderson, and Brunswick School student Angus Fraser are headed to national competitions after winning awards at the 67th annual Science and Engineering Fair held at Quinnipiac University.

eesmarts ™, an Energize CT program, sponsored the Special Award categories of Alternative/Renewable Energy for middle and high school students in the competition held on March 14.

Novek’s project on Low Grade Waste Heat Recovery received 1st place in the Future Sustainability category for High School students. He was awarded $800, a plaque and a trip to compete at I-SWEEEP in Houston, TX.

Anderson’s Effective Optimization of Biogas Production project was awarded 2nd place in the Future Sustainability category and he received $500, a plaque and a trip to compete at GENIUS Olympiad in Oswego, NY.

Fraser’s project, Revolutionizing a 16th Century Product for the Modern World, was honored in both the Alternative/Renewable Energy and the Future Sustainability categories for High School students. He was awarded 1st place in the Alterative/Renewable Energy category and received $500, a plaque commemorating his achievement and a trip to compete at I-SWEEEP in Houston, TX. His project also came in 3rd place in the Future Sustainability category, where he received $300 and a trophy for his achievement.

The Connecticut Science and Engineering Fair is open to students in grades 7 through 12 across the state, who compete for more than 600 spots each year. The objective of the fair is to attract young people to careers in the science and engineering industry, while developing critical thinking skills.
