Whitby School ranked 3rd place at the MATHCOUNTS Southwest Connecticut Chapter Competition, a ranking that will advance Whitby’s math team to the State Competition this March. More than 200 Mathletes representing 25+ area schools competed in this year’s event, held at Fairfield University on Saturday, February 14.
This year Whitby was the only school in Greenwich whose team qualified for the 2015 State competition, beating the teams from Eastern Middle School (last year’s state champion), Brunswick, Sacred Heart, Greenwich Country Day, Stanwich and Central Middle School.
Team members Eric Osband, Neev Suryawanshi, Jacob Buehler and Noah Bryan posted strong individual scores as well as an outstanding team showing under Eric’s captainship. Neev Suryawanshi, Grade 8 student at Whitby, earned third place in the Countdown Round after placing in the top 11 overall.
