Stamford Police Investigate Early Morning Shooting

Police found a crime scene on Fairfield Avenue but not the victim until he showed up at the hospital for treatment.

Stamford Police responding to calls of a shooting at a Fairfield Avenue home “known for nefarious activity for the last several years” early Saturday, found a crime scene — shell casings and a pool of blood — but nary a victim in sight.

It was about 45 minutes after police received the reports of a shooting, that a 24-year-old man who was shot twice in the legs showed up at Stamford Hospital seeking treatment, police said.

And now police are seeking the public’s help in trying to identify the shooter who fired at least six rounds into a group gathered on the front porch of the house at 293 Fairfield Ave.

Police say the shooting stems from a fight that began at a party at the Stamford Hilton earlier in the night, according to Stamford Police.

At about 2:38 a.m. Saturday, the department received multiple calls of shots having been fired at 293 Fairfield Ave. When officers arrived they discovered multiple shell casings and a pool of blood on the floor of the first-floor foyer and leading to the second floor.

But officers could not find the victim even after evacuating the house, and “despite observing a crime scene,” police said.

The victim arrived at Stamford Hospital for treatment of two non-life threatening bullet wounds — one to each leg. The unidentified victim underwent treatment and was released from the hospital Saturday morning.

Police said, “Several sources are saying that there was a party at the Stamford Hilton and a fight erupted between the victim and several others at this party. The victim and his friends left and were congregated on the front porch of 293 Fairfield Ave.”

Police added, “At that point a lone shooter shot seven rounds towards the front of the house and striking the victim twice. Stamford Police ID bureau and BCI (Bureau of Criminal Investigation) division responded and recovered 6 of the 7 rounds and all the shell casings for examination. We are currently interviewing witnesses and acquiring video from surrounding business in an attempt to locate the shooter. The victim and all persons who were congregated on the porch are uncooperative at this time.”

Lt. Diedrich Hohn said the recovered shell casings are from a 9 mm gun — casing similar to those found after a home invasion at the house in November.

Police described the house at 293 Fairfield Ave. as a “residence (that) has been notorious for police involvement and nefarious activity for the last several years. In November 2014, we investigated a home invasion at this residence in which two shots were fired. Victims were uncooperative at that time and no arrests have been made.”

If anyone has information or witnessed the latest shooting, they are asked to call the detective bureau at 203-977-4417. All calls will be kept confidential.
