West Hartford Hosting Prescription Drug Take Back on Sept. 27

Event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the parking lot adjacent to the West Hartford Police Department on Raymond Road.

The West Hartford Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration will host a prescription drug take back event Saturday, Sept. 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the parking lot adjacent to the West Hartford Police Department on Raymond Road.

In early September, the West Hartford Substance Abuse Prevention Commission administered an electronic survey of West Hartford parents of high school students. Of 391 respondents, 86.4% said that they kept prescription drugs in unlocked medicine cabinets or drawers.

On Saturday, September 27, 2014, the West Hartford Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration will coordinate a collaborative effort with state and local law enforcement agencies to remove potentially dangerous controlled substances from our nation’s medicine cabinets.

The National Take-Back Day provides an opportunity for the public to surrender expired, unwanted, or unused controlled substances and other over the counter medicines for destruction. This is an opportunity to dispose of all of these medications in a safe and environmentally sound manner.

Note: Intravenous solutions, needles, syringes and Epi pens will not be accepted
