Fire Continues To Burn at Chadwick Road Landfill
The city of Milton said it could take "hours" to extinguish the fire, which is producing a large amount of smoke in the area.
MILTON, GA -- A fire at the Chadwick Road Landfill in the western part of the city is causing a large amount of smoke to billow throughout the area.
Milton Fire-Rescue crews are battling the large rubbish fire at 13700 Chadwick Farms Boulevard, which sits off S.R. 140 near the Cherokee County line, the city said Wednesday morning.
Over an acre in size, the fire is producing large amounts of smoke.

"Due to the size and depth, the fire could take hours to extinguish," the city said. "People with respiratory sensitivity should remain indoors or avoid the area."
Assistant Fire Chief Mark Stephens said crews are making "positive progress" in putting out the fire.

"This fire will continue to generate smoke in the area throughout today and tonight," he said Wednesday afternoon. "The fire is contained, but not out."
It's the second time in a year a fire has been reported at the facility. An October 2015 fire also produced a large amount of smoke and took crews hours to defeat, the city previously said.
