Burn Victims Hospitalized After Roswell House Explosion

The Roswell Fire Department continues to investigate the cause of the explosion of the home on Pine Grove Point Drive.

ROSWELL, GA — An account has been created to help the three men who suffered injuries late Tuesday when an explosion destroyed a home on the western side of Roswell.

The GoFundMe account for the trio, identified as Pat Simmons, Win Reid and Brendan Morton, is seeking to raise $3,000 to help them replace any belongings blown away or damaged in the incident. Roswell fire crews were dispatched around 8:49 p.m. June 12 to the explosion at the home on Pine Grove Point Drive, which is located of Shallowford Road.

Fire units arrived to find a single family home with "substantial damage, (but) no fire reported," said Roswell fire spokesperson Pabel Troche. Two people were injured and transported with second- and third-degree burns to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta. One minor injury was treated at the scene.

According to the GoFundMe page, Reid suffered "minimal injuries" because he was on the opposite side of the house when the explosion occurred. While the page notes the explosion stemmed from a gas leak, the Roswell Fire Department has not released an official cause of the incident.

Simmons and Morton are hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit at Grady Memorial Hospital, the page added.

"Over half of their bodies have 2nd and 3rd degree burns," said page organizer Emma-Rae Pinson. "Everything all three boys owned is now lost or under significant rubble from the explosion. Any donation is helpful to help the boys buy new clothes, shoes, and basic living supplies. Before all else, thank you for your thoughts and prayers."

As of 11:45 a.m., about $1,540 has been contributed to the cause. The Roswell Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the scene, and the agency is asking people to avoid the area, Troche added. Return to Patch for updates. You can click here to consider making a donation to help the victims.
