Sandy Springs Blotter: Man Invited Over To "Chill" Allegedly Robs 2 Residents

Robbery

  • 1500 block of Huntcliff Village Drive, 30350, 8/24: A 24-year-old man reported that he and an acquaintance met a man named Rahid at a club in Atlanta and invited the man over the following day to “chill.” When Rahid arrived, he had with him a Taco Bell paper bag containing a gun described as a Taurus 9mm with a twenty-eight round extended magazine. Rahid was accompanied by another man. They forced their way inside the door, ordering all in the apartment to turn over their phones and money. One of the victims fled over the balcony rail and landed some 30 feet below. He sustained injuries (not listed) Taken were two iPhone 6’s, just under $600 cash and a driver’s license. Rahid is said to be 23, 6’-0” and 150 pounds, medium build. He wears white framed Versace glasses andhas tattoos on both arms and knuckles.

  • 7400 block of Roswell Road, 30350, 8/22: Classic Collision reported that between 6 p.m. on Aug. 22 and 9:30 a.m. the following day, someone entered the shop and after forcing a gate open. A number of tools were taken.
  • 4900 block of Lake Forrest Drive, 30342, 8/24 (9:30 a.m. to 6:55 p.m.): The resident said upon returning home, he found a rear window open and the storm glass part removed. Missing is a 60-inch TV, guns, watch, $50 in change. A neighbor said they saw a light blue station wagon in the carport, thought it was strange, but assumed that it was the cleaning people who normally come the following day. Capt. Steve Rose says: this is a great example of how you shouldn’t second guess your first instinct. He thought it strange but dismissed it. We catch burglars when folks go with the first instinct. Go with it!
  • 2000 block of Harbor Pointe Pkwy, 30350, 8/24: (6 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.): The resident reported she returned home and found that someone had stolen her Samsung Galaxy Table from a file drawer.
  • 5000 block of Riverside Drive, 30328, 8/26: The resident reported that between noon and about 3 p.m. someone entered his residence through a patio sliding door (left open). He said it appears they looked around but what he is missing is mostly tools.

Theft

  • 8601 Roberts Drive, 30350, 8/22: A cabbie said his fare was let off at Hunter’s Glen Apartments owing $48. He said he’d go get the money. The cab driver waited, then found the man in the pool area. The man said he would get the money. The cabbie waited again but then insisted on the fare. The man ran and then pulled a gun on the cabbie, threatening to shoot him if he followed.
  • The employee at Royal Package at 5325 Roswell Road said that on Aug. 22, around 1:30 p.m., a man described as a black male, came in and took four bottles of Crown Royal and then ran out. He got into a Chevy Cobalt, driven by another person, and left the scene.
  • 6690 Roswell Road, 30328, 8/22: A man reported that someone stole his iPhone 6 while he was playing basketball inside the LA Fitness.
  • 5600 Roswell Road, 30342, 8/22: A woman said she was at Marlow’s Tavern around 11 p.m. She left and later realized she had left her purse on the bar. She called an employee who confirmed it and she said she’d be in the following morning to retrieve it. She did so on the following day and discovered that a $400 cash and a $400 check were missing.
  • Jefferson Drive, 30350, 8/24: A 21-year-old woman said she was at her friend’s home and placed her iPhone 6 on the counter in the kitchen. While it was unattended, someone took it.
  • A 36-year-old woman reported that her AMEX and Bank of America cards were stolen from her workplace at 1100 Lake Hearn Drive on Aug. 24. She said the AMEX card was used for $1.105 at the Home Depot Sandy Springs and the Bank of America card used at Lowe’s for $1,138. Officers were told the same suspect committed the same offense at the Crescent Center Kaiser in DeKalb County on the 21st. Video confirmed the suspect as the same man.
  • 2400 block of Spalding Drive, 30350, 8/25: A 41-year-old man said while he was doing landscaping work at a residence, someone took his Stihl leaf blower (valued at $500) left lying on the ground, and walked off to the nearby wooded area.
  • 5300 Roswell Road, 30342, 8/25: Around 9:15 p.m. an employee of the Chevron Station said a man, described as a black male, 5’-5”, 30-35 years old, with Napoleon Syndrome, came in, grabbed four pair of sunglasses and left without paying.
  • 795 Hammond Drive, 30328, 8/26: A man who boots cars said he booted a car, 2007 Infiniti G35 at the rear of Park Tower Apartments around 7 p.m. The next morning, around 9:40 a.m., he returned to find the car and his boot device gone.

Thefts From Vehicles

  • Lafayette Way, 30342, 8/22: Purse, vintage wallet, credit cards, $250 cash from unlocked car overnight.
  • 400 block Laurel Chasel, 30328, 8/22: $20 cash, car’s registration
  • 3000 block of The Valley, 30328, 8/22: License plate
  • 6200 block of PDR, 30328, 8/23: Nothing taken
  • 5600 block of PDR, 30342, 8/24: Nothing taken
  • 6300 blk of PDR, 30328, 8/25: Temp tag was stolen
  • 200 block of Franklin Rd, 30342, 8/26: Kenwood in-dash CD/MP3 unit

Assault

  • A 30-year-old man said that on Aug. 22, he was assaulted by his girlfriend at his apartment on Spring Creek Lane. The man said his girlfriend hit him with bother her hands and feet, leaving him with obvious injuries to his eye, both arms, and neck. The victim said she became angry about a pre-existing argument that was not completed on the day before. After whooping him, she bolted over the balcony rail and disappeared into the night before cops arrived.
  • Kingsport Drive, 30342, 8/24: A 61-year-old man said he got into a verbal altercation with another man who pushed him down onto the couch.
  • A 33-year-old woman reported that she was at 1155 Mt. Vernon Hwy at the Chick-Fil-A, outside near a vehicle in the lunch line for drive through service. At the same time, the suspect, in his car, at the drive through window, was attempting to use a breakfast-only coupon at lunchtime, and was upset and throwing a tantrum at the employee. The suspect then began honking the horn of his car and backing away from the line at which time he almost backed into the victim, who was crossing the parking lot to her car. She yelled at him to stop and hid did. Back and forth yelling ensued and as she walked away, he charged at her in the car, stopping only a couple of feet from her. She then took a photo of his car. The manager of the restaurant, who originally tried to assist the suspect in the car, was now in the lot helping the victim by confronting the suspect, telling him to leave. As a result he left the property after a few more words. The suspect is a white male, 40’s, in a black Ford Fusion. Tag and information were obtained and the incident is being investigated.
  • 7884 Roswell Road, 30350, 8/25: Around 4 p.m. cops were called to the QuikTrip on Roswell Road and spoke with a woman who said the following: She was north on Roswell, in the turn lane, to make a left into the QT. A car cut in ahead of her and made the left turn. The other driver pulled up to the pumps. The victim said she drove up to her and told her that she almost caused an accident and would have gotten a citation. The woman in the other car said that it would be the victim who would receive the ticket. The woman got into the area known as personal space and was told by the victim to back away. The other woman said, “I’ll get my Glock and shoot you in the head.” The victim said she was calling 911. The woman said, “Call the police; they’ll have to find me.” The victim said she never saw a gun and took a photo of the woman and car tag. The complaint is being followed up.
  • Kingsport Drive, 30342, 8/26: A condo owner said she was at the condo she rented to a person whom she was evicting. She was inside the condo checking for damage. An argument ensued with the man and according to her, he followed her outside, grabbed her by the throat, and punched her several times on her side. She called for help and another man assisted her. The suspect said she was stealing his personal property and he choked her and hit her on the side in self-defense. He was arrested.

Other Things

  • A drunk guy fell off his bike around the 6500 block of Roswell Road on Aug. 22 around 6:30 p.m. He wasslightly injured and very drunk. He was taken to the hospital.
  • GA 400 SB at Windsor Pkwy, 30342, 8/23: A 68-year-old man was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital following an accident. He was pronounced dead a short time later. It is believed that he died of a medical problem which then caused him to wreck the vehicle.
  • A woman reported that she and her husband are involved in a divorce. She has received Facebook messages from a person whom she thinks is his new girlfriend. The sender apparently knows the intimate details of the divorce. She also sent over 30 text messages over a 24-hour period. She even sent a photo of the ex’s genitalia. She filed a report and forwarded the documentation to detectives.
  • 8040 Roswell Road, 30350, 8/23: A 62-year-old man shot himself in the hand while at the Sandy Springs Gun Club and Range. While standing at the firing lane, and assuming the .380 Beretta was not loaded, he began to work on the gun causing it to fire. The bullet passed through the fatty part of the hand, then down range. He is expected to recover fully.
  • Roswell Road and Tahoma Drive, 30350, 8/24: Around 5 p.m., traffic Sgt. Scott Levy was on Roswell Road when he heard a “person down” call dispatched to a location near to his. In response, he found a man on the ground and two women next to him performing CPR. The sergeant, who had an AED in the unit, determined the man was not breathing and had no pulse. He applied the AED’s pads to the man’s chest where theAED read the man’s pulse/heartbeat (in this case none) and instructed a request for a shock. The shock was administered and as a result, the AED read a pulse. SSFD and EMS then arrived and the man was transported to North Fulton Hospital. It appears the man fell and struck his face along the curbing of the roadway.
  • A man on Colquitt Road (30350) called police on Aug. 26 and said someone came into his apartment and took documents including disability paperwork and disability appeals forms containing personal information. Whoever entered the apartment left a video game controller for an X-Box system. The victim said the FBI and Department of Homeland Security are on the top of the list of suspects. He demanded that SSPD produce any search warrants they have executed at his residence. The resident has called in a total of four alleged burglaries at the residence since June, all of which involved document theft.

Fraud

  • Nesbit Ferry Road, 30350, 8/22: Scammer called “Lt. Marshall” demanding payment for missing jury duty. Said he’s from Fulton County Sheriff’s Dept. Numerous reports of this over the past couple of months. Victim didn’t fall for it.
  • Saddleview Run, 30350, 8/24: Fake Taylor Swift tickets made from victim’s original ticket. Her AMX account was accessed.
  • Cimarron Pkwy, 30350, 8/24: Visa # was used on hotels.com and expedia.com.

Arrests

  • SSPD detectives have arrested and charged a woman with making a false report on June 11, saying she was kidnapped as she walked home from the Publix on Powers Ferry Road. She said 2 men in a white van kidnapped her. After finding little evidence of the incident, detectives again spoke with the victim who admitted making up the story.
  • Detectives have arrested one of the two men in connection with the theft of a gun from the Sandy Springs Gun Club and Range earlier this month. Warrants are out on the second suspect. The gun has not yet been recovered.
  • Detectives unfounded a robbery reported earlier this month by a victim who said she was robbed of $700. She later confessed that she had actually bought “skunk” weed, (For those of you not all that hip, bad marijuana, AKA Oregano, or even catnip,) and I guess was a bit angry after cloggin’ her lungs with some skunk.
  • Cops arrested a man inside the Arby’s at 8753 Roswell Road on Aug. 24. The manager of the storeopened up and found the man inside. The man fled and confronted officers. He was secured and later arrested. Nothing was taken. It’s believed the man is homeless and was sleeping in the bathroom of the restaurant overnight.
  • Glenridge Point Pkwy, 30342, 8/25: Just after 4 a.m., a patrol officer responded to a 911 call of a suspicious person walking through a parking garage and pulling on door handles in what appeared to the caller as an attempt to enter a vehicle to steal. The officer spotted the man and stopped him, asking if he lived in the complex to which the man replied “no.” He told the officer he was looking for a place to poop. Due to the circumstances, not counting anything to do with the poop comment, the man was arrested for prowling and loitering. His car, located at 860 Johnson Ferry Road, hid several items in there including a 9mm Glock and credit cards not in his name.
  • 5600 Roswell Road, 30342, 8/25: Around 11 a.m., cops were called regarding a fight between two students from a skin and nail college. The two women fought over a flat-iron with punches thrown. Apparently the flat-iron was loaned and not returned on time. No one was killed.
  • 227 Sandy Springs Place, 30328, 8/26: A woman was arrested after stealing a six pack of Ice House Tall Boy Beer at a $5.49 value, from Kroger.
