MABLETON, GA---------------After more than two years of work, The Georgia Community Coalition with local community advocacy groups, the Partnership for Southern Equity, transit leadership, and county government leadership, transportation services that were eliminated to balance the county budget will be restored.
County Commission Chairman Tim Lee, and Commissioner Lisa Cupid who represents the South Cobb community worked with their colleagues to find funding for the restoration of the bus service. The Cobb County Transit System has received a five hundred thousand dollar grant to launch a three-year pilot project that will bring new ideas to the provision of bus service to those in South Cobb.
The Georgia Community Coalition's philosophy according to Reverend Coakley Pendergrass who serves as Chairman is: “Those who are affected by decisions should be at the table intricately involved in those decisions. The ridership for the new bus service must stay tuned and be prepared to attend a series of meetings during which time major decisions to identify bus routes and special pic- up points that maximize the use of the bus service to its fullest potential.”
