No one was injured, but five Skokie residents at a home in the 8100 block of Lincoln Avenue are displaced after a Wednesday morning box alarm fire made the structure uninhabitable.

The fire started on the front porch of the home just after 11 a.m. and then spread toward the attic, according to the Skokie Review. Although four of the home’s five occupants (some who are disabled) were home at the time, all got out safely. A cat and a dog were also rescued.

Six adult residents of the nearby Shore Homes West facility were also evacuated by emergency officials due to the severity of the blaze.

“The fire was likely of an accidental nature, and we’re looking into the possibility that it was caused by a battery-operated wheelchair that was causing problems earlier during the day,” according to a Skokie fire official.
