Miles Of Salutes On Officer Caprio's Funeral Procession: PHOTOS

Firefighters were posted along the funeral procession route to honor Officer Amy Caprio, who died in the line of duty.

During the funeral procession for Officer Amy Caprio, firefighters were posted along overpasses and intersections in a show of respect for Caprio and her family. Citizens were encouraged to join volunteer firefighters but were reminded to obey traffic laws.

"We discourage anyone from stopping and getting out of their vehicles on the highways," the Baltimore County Volunteer Firemen's Association said in a statement.

Officer Caprio's funeral service was from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday, May 25, at the Mountain Christian Church New Life Center at 1824 Mountain Road in Joppa.

The funeral procession traveled from Mountain Christian Church in Harford County to Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens in Timonium via MD 152 to Interstate 95 to I-695 to I-83 to Padonia Road.

The procession began around 1 p.m. and closed I-95 at MD 152 until approximately 1:30 p.m., when the full procession had entered the interstate.

Rolling road and ramp closures were expected along the route.

By 2 p.m., the Maryland Transportation Authority reported the procession had cleared I-95.

The Maryland Transportation Authority shared a photo showing Joppa-Magnolia and Fallston firefighters ready with a ladder arch, with crews offering a final salute as the fallen officer left Harford County, taking MD 152 to I-95 south.


Here are the Baltimore County fire companies participating in the procession and locations where they were posted, according to the Baltimore County Firemen's Association:











The Providence Volunteer Fire Company Truck 297 and Baltimore County Fire Department Truck 8 will form a ladder arch at the entrance to the cemetery at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens at 200 East Padonia Road, at the end of the procession, according to officials.


Officer Amy Caprio, who had been a member of the Baltimore County Police Department for nearly four years, was killed on Monday, May 21, after she was hit by an SUV, according to police. Authorities said she was responding to a call about a suspicious vehicle on Linwen Way in Perry Hall, where burglaries were also reported.

Four Baltimore teens have been charged in her death.

Baltimore County officials say Caprio is the first female officer killed in the line of duty in the Baltimore Police Department's 144-year history. She was 29 years old.
