4K Without Power In MD, More Than 10K Customers Restored

Outages were reported across the state as winds picked up speed, officials say.

MARYLAND — More than 15,000 people were without power in Maryland Monday as powerful wind gusts whipped through the state. Several bridges were under limited wind restrictions out of safety concerns, and closures were instituted in some areas due to power outages.

There were 15,878 customers without power in the state, according to this state outage map, as of midday Monday. After 8:30 p.m., the number was down to 4,390.

These utility companies are reporting the most outages in Maryland after 12:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 25:

  • Anne Arundel County: 1,990
  • Baltimore County: 1,979
  • Prince George's County: 1.977
  • Allegany County: 1,776
  • Garrett County: 1,661

The National Weather Service said that power outages were expected as much of the state was under a high wind warning until 6 p.m. on Monday, with the potential for gusts up to 60 mph.

Closures Announced Due To Weather

In Baltimore City, due to a power outage, Westport Academy dismissed at 1:30 p.m., according to school officials.

In Baltimore County, Sparks Elementary School closed at 1:30 p.m. due to a power outage. Bus transportation for Hereford Middle and Hereford High School may be delayed, officials said.

In Harford County, Churchville and Riverside elementary schools were closed because they were without power.

In Carroll County, the South Carroll Senior and Community Center at 5928 Mineral Hill Road in Eldersburg closed after 9:15 a.m. because of a power outage.

Stay inside if possible.

Watch for flying debris.

Call the utility company if a power line falls or is sparking; do not touch it.
