BCPS Closes Schools Without Air Conditioning Thursday

Schools without air conditioning are closed "due to impending excessive heat," according to Baltimore County Public Schools.

BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — Schools in Baltimore County that do not have air conditioning are closed Thursday, Sept. 12. All other schools are open as scheduled.

"Due to impending excessive heat, Baltimore County Public Schools will close all non air-conditioned facilities on Thursday, Sept. 12, 2019," the school system said in a statement. "All magnet shuttles will continue with normal schedules."

Temperatures are forecast to hit 97 degrees Thursday in Baltimore, according to the National Weather Service.

These are the schools that are closed because they are not air-conditioned, according to Baltimore County Public Schools:

  • Bedford Elementary School
  • Berkshire Elementary School
  • Colgate Elementary School
  • Watershed Public Charter School
  • Dulaney High School
  • Lansdowne High School
  • Campfield Early Learning Center
  • Catonsville Center for Alternative Studies

Baltimore County is not the only district where non-air-conditioned schools are cancelling classes due to the heat. In Baltimore City, schools are closing three hours early Thursday if they do not have air conditioning. Also one school is dismissing early due to the president's visit to Baltimore.
