O'Malley to Meet with Arab Refugees in Dearborn
Arab American Institute's quadrennial summit occurs before presidential election cycle; O'Malley is only confirmed candidate attending.
Democratic presidential contender and former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley is expected in Dearborn Friday to meet with Arab refugees who recently resettled in Michigan.
The meeting will take place at the University of Michigan-Dearborn campus following the “Refugee Voices: A Shared Discourse of Loss” session of the Arab American Institute’s National Leadership Conference.

The discussion takes place at 2:30 p.m. in the Social Sciences Building, Room 1400, at 4901 Evergreen Road. O’Malley will meet with a small group of refugees who are expected to share their stories of resettlement in the United States.
The Arab American Institute’s Oct. 23-25 three-day summit in Dearborn will bring together Arab American leaders from across the country.

The quadrennial summit is held ahead of presidential election cycle to provide a forum for candidates to address and hear from the Arab American community, and for Arab American community leaders to outline their platform.
O’Malley’s last visit to the state was to Ann Arbor on Aug. 6, when he attended a fund-raiser at Arbor Brewing Co. in Ann Arbor.
Hillary Clinton visited Metro Detroit in July, and her husband, former President Bill Clinton, headlined an Oct. 6 fundraiser in Bingham Farms at the home of Doreen Hermelin, whose late husband, David, was an ambassador to Norway during Bill Clinton’s presidency.
U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont has yet to visit Michigan.
