Charges Won't Be Filed Against Woman Who Shot Son

Farmington Hills police said Monday the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office won't pursue charges in death of Demitrius Deneze-Raymond Taylor.

Police said Monday a Farmington Hills woman won’t be charged in the shooting death of her son, Demitrius Deneze-Raymond Taylor, in a domestic situation last week.

Taylor, 24, of Detroit, was fatally shot about 1:40 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, after he allegedly forced his way into his mother’s residence at the Independence Green Apartment Complex, 37231 Eisenhower.

The man’s mother said she was acting in self defense to protect herself and other members of the family from assault After reviewing the situation, the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office declined to press charges, police said in a statement.

Police said the mother of the victim said her son had forced his entry into her apartment, and she was defending herself and other members of her family from assault.

Police had been at the residence at four times since 7:45 p.m. on the night of Oct. 27 to deal with verbal disputes, most recently an hour before the man was fatally shot once in the chest.

The investigation is continuing, and police said the public is not in danger.

The Farmington Hills Fire Department attempted advanced life support at the scene and transported the victim to Beaumont Hospital-Farmington Hills, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Two women and their children were in the apartment at the time the shooting occurred, police said.
