Fire Rips Through Madison Preschool: Reports

A preschool class was evacuated from the Madison Community House as firefighters put out flames.

MADISON, NJ— A third floor fire forced an evacuation of the Madison Community House Wednesday morning, sending young students outside as firefighters worked to put the flames out, according to reports. The house is owned by the Thursday Morning Club.

The fire broke out around 9:22 a.m., the Daily Record reported. All of the preschool children were evacuated and taken to Vision Electrical Contractors nextdoor. No one was injured.

"We are not sure what caused the fire. We will be starting our investigation to determine that, it is too early to tell," Fire Chief Lou DeRosa told TapInto Madison. "There is fire and water damage to the third floor as well as water damage to the second floor from what we can see right now. We will need to do a full assessment as to what areas of the building can be re-occupied if any at this time."

DeRosa told The Record it might have stemmed from an outlet or a phone charger.

This is the second fire in the borough in as many days. Main Street was closed and power knocked out in the area after a garbage truck caught fire on Tuesday. There were no injuries in that incident either.
