Passaic County Man Gets 2 Years After He's Found With 17 Machine Guns

Police found the machines guns, 262 high-capacity magazines, two short-barreled rifles in Mariusz Cebula's Ringwood home.

A Passaic County man was sentenced Monday to two years in prison for possessing more than dozen machine guns and hundreds of high-capacity magazines that police found at his Ringwood home in 2015.

Mariusz Cebula, 36, had 17 machines guns, two short-barreled rifles and 262 high-capacity magazines when authorities found them at his home while serving Cebula with a restraining order, said U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman. He was charged with knowingly possessing machine guns.

U.S. District Judge Susan D. Wigenton sentenced Cebula to the prison term and to three years of supervised release.

Some of the machine guns were "operational automatic weapons," meaning they could shoot more than bullet automatically by pulling the trigger once. They included a 9mm Lugar caliber, STEN Mk II type and a C.G. Haenel 9mm caliber, MP-41 select-fire machine gun, Fishman said.

Cebula obtained most of the firearms at gun shows from unlicensed sellers and on the internet, authorities said.

The weapons were found in a hidden “bunker” under the basement floor of Cebula's home, Ringwood police said when Cebula was arrested, NorthJersey.com reported.
