Huntington Claims Team Title at NYS Track and Field Championships
The Blue Devils had nearly double the points of the second place team.

The Huntington Boys Track and Field team won the team title New York State Championships thanks to several dominating performances by star athletes at Cicero-North Syracuse High School this past weekend.
The Blue Devils won the state meet with 46 points, thanks to four first place finishes, two school records and one county record.
“What can I say?” Huntington head coach Ronald Wilson asked the Huntington UFSD. “All those medals speak for themselves.”
State meet highlights:
- Kyree Johnson won the Division I 400 meter dash with a time of 48.53 seconds. Johnson went on to win the 400 meter dash Federation championship with a time of 47.94 seconds.
- Infinite Tucker won the Division I 100 meter hurdles with a time of 14.05 seconds. Tucker went on to win the 100 meter hurdles Federation championship with a time of 14.06.
- Tucker won the Division I 400 meter hurdles with a time of 52.74 seconds. He went on to win the 400 meter hurdles Federation championship with a time of 52.35 seconds.
- The boys (Tucker, Johnson, Lawrence Leake and Shane McGuire) won the Division I 4x400 meter relay in a time of 3:15.63. The same relay went on to win the Federation championship with a time of 3:15:00, setting a school a county record.
- Kenny Charles placed fourth in the Division I discus with a throw of 50.59 meters. Charles placed third in the Federation championship with a throw of 52.40 meters, setting a school record.
- Shane McGuire placed sixth in Division I and eighth in the 800 meter run Federation championship with a time of 1:54.98.
With 46 points, the Blue Devils easily outscored runner-ups Maine-Endwell and Wilson Magnet School, which scored 26 points. Full state meet results can be found here.
“This has been an incredible season,” Wilson told HUFSD. “It’s a special group of young men. They have been wonderful ambassadors for Huntington wherever they have gone.” Wilson coaches the boys alongside assistant coaches Eli Acosta and Haidee Bonhurst.

The team has a long list of accomplishments: Huntington returned from the New York State Indoor Track & Field Championships at Cornell University in Ithaca in March with two gold medals and two silver medals. The team finished their season as New Balance Indoor Nationals champions in the the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:16.09 and were named the Long Island Boys Winter Track and Field Team of the Year.
The team will compete for the final time this season at New Balance Outdoor Nationals at North Carolina A&T University in Greensboro next weekend.
