Update: Police Identify Man Found Dead at Aquebogue Garden Center

Property owner discovered the dead man Friday afternoon, police said.

Update:

Police have identified a man found dead at Verderber’s Garden Center in Aquebogue Friday.

After conducting an investigation into a discovered body reported on Friday, Riverhead Town Police identified the deceased as Robert J. Croghan, 52, of Aquebogue.

The preliminary investigation indicates that Croghan’s vehicle was involved in an accident earlier that same day.

The driver was not at the scene upon police arrival, police said.

Croghan’s 2004 Chevrolet pick-up appeared to be traveling east on Hubbard Avenue and crossed through the intersection of Edgar Avenue, according to police.

He then collided with a snow bank, trees, and a fence located at Crescent Duck Farm, police said.

The owner of the property reported finding the vehicle involved in the accident at 7:30 a.m. on Friday morning, according to police.

No operator of the vehicle was located at the time the vehicle was discovered.

A dead man was found on the property of Verderber Garden Center in Aquebogue on Friday afternoon, according to Riverhead Town Police.

Police said they responded at 5:16 p.m. to the Garden Center on 459 Main Road to investigate the reported death.

The owner of the property discovered the body on a farm road on the property, police said.

The cause of death is unknown at this time, and the deceased was removed to the Suffolk County medical examiner’s office, police said.

The investigation is ongoing, and the death did not appear to be suspicious in nature at this time, police said.

The deceased’s identity was not released due to pending notification of the next of kin, according to police.
