Station Man Takes Aim at Suffolk's Inaugural Marathon

Sept. 13 Full and Half Marathons Expected to Draw Thousands of Competitors.

Sabino Curcio of Huntington Station will be among the thousands of runners expected for the inaugural Suffolk marathon on Sunday September 13.

It will be the second half marathon for the 24-year-old man, who previously ran a half at the 2014 Michelob Ultra Half Marathon in Queens last year. He also has run in the Great Cow Harbor 10k Race in Northport and participates in such mud races as Tough Mudder.

“ I am running the Suffolk Half Marathon because the running community on Long Island is incredible and having the ability to run throughout such beautiful areas of the Island, like Heckscher Park, is tremendous. It is also very exciting to be a part of the Inaugural race, which I know will become an annual tradition and an incredible event.”

Our marathon will give us an opportunity to showcase all of that.”

The races will also benefit veterans’ causes. The marathon has a distinctly planned route that was designed to showcase and drive tourism towards downtowns along the Great South Bay.

The race, which is a Boston Marathon qualifier, will begin and end at Heckscher State Park in East Islip with a Taste of Long Island wine and food festival to end race festivities. Suffolk County has partnered with New York State for race coordination and planning.
